On-demand Project Creation for Jira lets you create new projects from your own templates, or from any of your existing company-managed projects. It the the fastest and most straight-forward way of creating a new project in Jira.

On-demand Project Creation for Jira lets you create new projects from your own templates, or from any of your existing company-managed projects.

If the ‘Apps’ upper menu is hidden, click on ‘More’ to see it, and then choose ‘On-demand Project Creation’.

Fill the form to create your new project:

  • Name: name that will be given to your new project. If this name is already used in your Jira site, Jira will add a number to make it unique. This is the name the users will see in Jira.

  • Key: the Jira project key that will be used. Keep it short and easy to say or spell. The issues in your project will start with this key. Ex: If you choose ‘BOB’ as a key, an issue key would be ‘BOB-321’ for instance. If the key is already used in your Jira site, Jira will add a number to make it unique.
    A project key must be between 2 and 10 characters, starting with a capital letter, and can include numbers.

  • Description: the main goal of the description is for users to understand what is your project about.

  • Project Lead: the one responsible for the project. If left empty, the Project Lead will be the person who is filling the form (so, that’s probably you!) The Project Lead has usually administration rights on the project. She is the point of contact who can tell what this project is about or who can lead you to the right person.

  • Project Template: the existing project which configuration will be taken to create the new project. Only company-managed projects are available. If you need to create a team-managed project, please use the standard Jira interface.

After hitting the ‘Create Project’, the process creation will begin. It takes a dozen of seconds to have your new projet created.

You have different links to help you configure in details this new project.

Tip: you can use these information to communicate the main elements to the project lead or the scrum master.
